Kaiviti Silktails Forge New Partnership with McDonald’s Fiji to Empower Fijian Youth

Exciting news has emerged as McDonald’s Fiji and the Kaiviti Silktails Rugby League Football Club join forces to create a brighter, healthier future for the youth of Fiji. In a significant announcement, McDonald’s Fiji has officially partnered with the Silktails as a Platinum Sleeve Sponsor for the 2025 season.

The partnership was unveiled during a memorable contract signing and jersey presentation at the McDonald’s Fiji head office in Nadi. This event marks the commencement of a long-term alliance between two organizations that are deeply committed to community development. The partnership, valued at $75,000, features $50,000 in direct financial assistance and $25,000 worth of in-kind support. These funds are earmarked for vital community outreach initiatives, post-match meals, branded gear, and school-based coaching clinics.

Marc McElrath, the managing director of McDonald’s Fiji, articulated the significance of this collaboration, emphasizing that it represents more than just sponsorship. “This partnership is about building pathways—not just for rugby, but for life, creating opportunities,” he stated. He also underscored the pivotal role this partnership will play in supporting youth development programs aimed at nurturing the next generation of rugby league talent in Fiji, saying, “We’re dedicated to fostering the holistic growth of young Fijians by offering career opportunities that can open doors not only within our restaurants but also throughout the community. These partnerships offer skill-building workshops, discipline, and strong life-building initiatives like the Silktails’ ‘no work, no study, no play’ policy.”

Club chairman and founder Petero Civoniceva reflected on the groundbreaking nature of this three-year sponsorship partnership, noting its importance in Fijian rugby league history. “This will assist in developing junior rugby league across Fiji and furthering the growth of the sport,” he explained. “2025 marks our fifth year in operation, and today’s announcement and signing are a major milestone in the Kaiviti Silktails story. This cements McDonald’s as a major supporter of Fijian sport, enabling Fijian athletes to realize their potential in their chosen sport.”

Civoniceva emphasized that this partnership would enable the Silktails brand to introduce rugby league to a new generation of Silktails youth—both boys and girls—who are crucial to the Silktails Elite Development Pathway Program. McDonald’s Fiji will also play a role in delivering grassroots coaching clinics across schools, utilizing McDonald’s-branded equipment and vehicles to encourage participation, discipline, and teamwork from an early age.

As we embark on this exciting journey with McDonald’s Fiji, the Kaiviti Silktails are committed to making a lasting impact on the lives of young Fijians and fostering the future stars of rugby league in our community. Stay tuned for more updates as we work together to build pathways for success on and off the field!
