Silktails fired up for pre-season

After their historic official inclusion in the NSWRL rugby league competition last month, the Kaiviti Silktails couldn’t be more excited to get started on their 2020 campaign.

Team ambassador and Fiji rugby league figurehead Petero Civoniceva said that the group is raw, but excited. “They can’t wait to rip in and show what they can do. This is the first ever opportunity that our local players will get to train full time at this level.

“The opportunity to play within our Kaiviti Silktails team in next year’s Ron Massey Cup competition is extremely exciting. They all understand that this is an amazing development pathway that could potentially launch them into an NRL career. We also should have a fair bit of support as there is a huge Fijian expat community in Sydney, and the boys can’t wait to showcase their skills in this new arena.”

The pre-season training will be conducted in Suva, then in the new year the Kaiviti Silktails will announce an exciting new partnership towards the Kaiviti Silktails High Performance Centre – stay tuned for this exciting news!

Civoniceva says the team has everything they need to be successful in their transition into the NSWRL. “The players have the natural talent to succeed, it will be how they apply themselves to a new training regime that will prepare them to take the next step. The Ron Massey Cup is our focus right now and Coach Brandon Costin will have them prepared.”

The Sydney rugby league community is looking forward to a Fijian flavour at the Silktails’ away games, with plans for Fijian food, music and tradition. “I think it will add a new dimension to the competition,” said Civoniceva. “It’s about bringing people together, and displaying all those wonderful qualities, both on and off the football field that Australians love about Fijians.
