Former QVS Head Boy Tomasi Seru Jr Signs With The 2023 Silktails

The Kaiviti Silktails RLFC are excited to announce the 2023 signing of Tomasi Seru Jr.

Seru is from Ketei Village on Toyota Island, Fiji, and has already begun his off-season training with the Silktails in Lautoka, with our Head Coach Wes Naiqama speaking about how great it is to have someone of Seru’s ability in our 2023 squad.

“I had first approached him (Seru) earlier last year, and he wanted to finish off his last year in school which we supported and totally understood” said Naiqama.

“I came back in September and got a chance to watch Tom and a few other boys who are with us in our squad play for the Fiji Schoolboys against Australia, and it was really good”

Silktails Executive Director Stephen Driscoll spoke of how impressed he is with how Seru applies himself, and how excited he was to have him join the Silktails in 2023 after he was noticed a couple of years ago.

“Tomasi has been on our radar through our Head of Pathways Ben Tubakibau since 2021 and it is wonderful to have him finally sign with our club,” said Driscoll.

“Tomasi had a massive 2022 for his school QVS at the Coca Cola Games winning several medals, including breaking the games discus record. After a strong year on the Rugby Pitch in both codes, he went on to Captain Fiji against the Australian Schoolboys.”

“For us as a club the most impressive part about Tomasi is what he does off the field with his commitment to his studies and various leadership roles, which includes being Head Boy at one of Fiji’s most prestigious schools in QVS”

“Tom made a decision to stay back in Fiji and turn down a contract opportunity to come to Australia with our Silktails Squad last season. He did this primarily so he could fulfil his academic commitments. Never have I been so impressed by a young man declining a contract offer after hearing his reasons”

“We are just so happy that Tomasi has been able to achieve what he set out to do in 2022 and gets to become a Kaiviti Silktail in 2023.”

The team at Astute Financial The Gap will be Seru’s 2023 Player Partner.

Congratulations Tom! We can’t wait to see you shine in 2023.
