ABOUT THE KAIVITI SILKTAILS COMMUNITY YOUTH PROGRAM

The KSCYP is a testament to the clubs commitment to both education and community involvement. By empowering our young players, the program ensures they can train while actively contributing to the local community.

The Kaiviti Silktails Community Youth Program, established in honour of our late Football Manager Jacquie Shannon, embodies our dedication to nurturing the next generation of Fijian leaders. This initiative goes beyond the rugby field, focusing on the holistic development of young men and women by integrating education, vocational training, and community service into their athletic journey. Through the program, we aim to cultivate not only skilled athletes but also responsible, empowered individuals who are prepared to make a positive impact in their communities.

At the heart of the program is our commitment to education. One of the key offerings is the Certificate IV in Youth Work, which enhances their ability to contribute to community initiatives and provides them with a valuable qualification that can be leveraged in future career paths.

The KSCYP also offers specialised vocational training in areas such as Lawn Care and White Card certification, further broadening their skill sets and enhancing their employability. By offering diverse training opportunities, the program helps to build well-rounded individuals who are capable of succeeding in various professional fields.

The Kaiviti Silktails Community Youth Program is deeply rooted in the values of community and service. As such, our players are encouraged to use their skills and knowledge to make a difference in their local communities. This emphasis on service helps to foster a strong sense of responsibility and leadership among our players.

Our efforts are supported by the generous contributions of key partners, including PacificAus Sports and the NSWRL, as their backing enables us to provide high-quality training and educational resources, ensuring that our players receive the best possible support.

The Kaiviti Silktails Community Youth Program is a comprehensive development platform that empowers young Fijians to achieve success both on-and-off the field. By combining athletic training with education, vocational skills, and community service, we are helping shape the future leaders of Fiji, who will carry forward the legacy of our Aunty Jacquie and continue to make a lasting impact on their communities.

VERTO

In a Fijian rugby league first, in 2023 the Kaiviti Silktails RLFC joined forces with the NRL’s VET Pathways team and Australian-based employment, training and community services provider VERTO, to launch a vocational Certificate IV Youth Work program.

Silktails Executive Director Stephen Driscoll has overseen the program’s development, which will act as a catalyst for enhancing community development programs in Fiji in the future.

“We’ve spent the past 18 months working with NRL VET Pathways, VERTO and NSWRL to develop a flexible and practical education program that allows our squad to focus their energies developing future career opportunities and at the same time, create stronger team bonds that translate to better performance and results on the field” Stephen said.

“Importantly, the qualifications in youth work our players obtain will actively support the next generation of young Pacific Island rugby league players both here in Australia and in Fiji.”
